Strategy Tips
- Sir Chadwell is designed for high-risk high-reward style melee builds as his passive constantly increases your Difficulty which increases the HP, Damage, and Speed of all enemies as well as increasing their spawn rates allowing you to gain more XP & Gold. As he naturally gains Difficulty when leveling up, never take the Cursed Tome when playing Chadwell.
- Chadwell's starting weapon, the Corrupted Sword, also incentivizes staying at very low HP to maintain high damage output while punishing you with severely reduced damage at high HP. You can view the chart on the Corrupted Sword's page for more detailed information on its HP based damage multiplier.
- Due to how the Corrupted Sword functions there is a clash between builds that optimize its potential vs Megabonk's current "meta". With this in mind, there are a few ways you could opt to build for Chadwell by toggling certain items on or off before the run.
- Building for Corrupted Sword by disabling Holy Book:
For this option you would toggle off the Holy Book entirely which avoids the issue of HP Regen ruining Corrupted Sword's damage, but also reduces the potential Damage bonuses of the Beefy Ring. This loss can be made up for by toggling on the Cursed Grabbies which can deal damage rivaling or even surpassing most Legendary items in a long run, but has anti-synergy with Beefy Ring due to its Max HP reduction. It is advised to banish the Beefy Ring if you go this route with your build as it will contribute less and less to your total damage as you collect more Cursed Grabbies. - Building for Corrupted Sword without disabling Holy Book:
Compared to the option above you would toggle off Cursed Grabbies and toggle on Holy Book & Leeching Crystal. During the run you must find 2 Leeching Crystals to lock your HP Regen stat at 0, which removes the conflict between Corrupted Sword & Holy Book. 3 or more Leeching Crystals will result in negative HP Regen causing you to take damage over time instead. Negative HP Regen can trigger items such as the Golden Shield & meaning you can potentially skip toggling on Kevin to enable these synergies and you are not forced to banish Leeching Crystal at any point during the run. This option also has no reason to banish the Beefy Ring as it will still provide large Damage bonuses to the build. - Building for Holy Book + Beefy Ring:
This is the most commonly chosen option. For this one you will toggle on Holy Book and toggle off Cursed Grabbies & Leeching Crystal. This build sacrifices 86.66% of Corrupted Sword's damage potential in exchange for optimizing the damage of the Holy Book. Holy Book deals more damage the more healing you receive between each of its pulses, so by not disabling your HP Regen it can eventually become so powerful it kills everything in one hit. This build hypothetically has an advantage over the others in extremely long runs.
- Building for Corrupted Sword by disabling Holy Book:
- EDITOR NOTE: Chadwell isn't the most suitable character for extremely long runs to begin with due to his 1% Difficulty gain on level up becoming an increasingly large downside the longer you survive. This forces enemy scaling to end up much higher than any other character would need (or want) to deal with. Please play him how you want rather than feeling forced to play into a meta he is a poor match for in the first place.
