Cursed Tome
Appearance
The Cursed Tome is basically the "hard mode" button in Megabonk. Instead of buffing you, it buffs the enemies. They come faster, hit harder and there are a lot more of them. The upside is that all this chaos gives you way more XP and loot if you can survive.
Overview
- Stat: Difficulty
- Base upgrade per level: +3.5%
- Max level: 99
- Category: Challenge Tome
Effects
- Enemies spawn in bigger numbers and scale in health, speed and strength. Higher enemy spawn rate = more XP drops.
- Runs feel way more intense once you start stacking levels of this Tome.
| Common | Uncommon | Rare | Epic | Legendary |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4% | 4% | 5% | 6% | 7% |
Despite the initial level of this tome saying it gives 3.5%, it seems to give 4% as another common level will result in 8% total Difficulty gained rather than the expected 7%.
How to Unlock
- Requirement: Beat a Stage Boss in under 5 minutes.
This means you need solid DPS and good movement to clear fast.
Synergies
- XP Tome: More enemies means way more XP, perfect combo for leveling quickly.
- Attraction Tome: Lets you scoop up all the extra XP without wasting time or putting yourself in dangerous positions.
- Agility Tome: Prevents enemies from becoming faster than you and makes it much easier to avoid getting surrounded.
- Damage Tome / Precision Tome / Cooldown Tome / Quantity Tome: Higher damage output will be extremely useful for surviving the hordes of enemies and tanky bosses you will be dealing with.
- Armor Tome: Armor is helpful in mitigating the high damage output of enemies at high difficulty.
- Regen Tome / Bloody Tome: Healing is useful when waves get overwhelming, however with enough difficulty enemies will kill you too quickly for these to have the chance to save you on their own. This can be mitigated by the Armor Tome or Armor bonuses gained from Charge Shrines or the Chaos Tome.
Strategy Tips
- Don’t pick this Tome unless you’re confident in your build.
- Make sure your build is capable of killing bosses and swarms before increasing difficulty too much or it may be the mistake that ends your run. Bosses in particular become much faster and deal massive damage at high difficulty. Armor + healing is also useful for surviving though you should not assume it will be enough to keep you alive on its own.
Notes
- Feels like an endgame Tome.
- Some players love the challenge, others avoid it until they’re stacked.
- Amazing for farming, but brutal if your run is weak.
