Shield Tome
Appearance
The Shield Tome adds a regenerating shield to your character in Megabonk. The shield takes damage first, protecting your HP. If you don’t take hits for a while, the shield refills, letting you absorb more punishment during long fights.

Effects
- Provides a shield buffer that blocks incoming damage. Damage taken can never overflow past Shield to hit your HP, but Poison/Bleed applied by enemies will still damage your HP afterwards.
- Shield regenerates automatically when you avoid damage for a short time.

How to Unlock
- This Tome is unlocked by default.

Synergies
- Regen Tome: Combine shield regen with HP regen for layered sustain.
- Evasion Tome: Evading hits keeps your shield up longer.
- Armor Tome: Reduces incoming damage, making the shield last even more.
- Cursed Tome: Extra enemy density makes shield sustain more important.
Strategy Tips
- Great defensive option, especially early in a run.
- Works well for melee builds that take chip damage while staying close to enemies.
- For long runs a single common Shield upgrade from a Charge Shrine will eventually be just as effective as this tome at Lv99 due to enemy damage scaling breaking the entire shield in one hit. This degree of scaling likely won't be encountered without attempting 100K+ kill count runs.
