The Black Hole is an advanced unlockable weapon in Megabonk and is considered one of the most powerful crowd control tools in the game. Rather than dealing high direct damage, its primary purpose is to manipulate the battlefield by pulling large groups of enemies into a single, vulnerable cluster.

As of Version 1.0.12, the Black Hole was adjusted with a mix of buffs, balance tweaks, and bug fixes to make it perform more consistently and efficiently.

Patch 1.0.12 Adjustments

  • Base size increased by +20%.
  • Proc coefficient reduced from 0.9 → 0.7 (now matches Sword, Axe, and Aura).
  • Hitbox and duration bugs fixed – projectiles no longer stop prematurely.
  • Duration Tome interaction corrected – duration scaling now works properly.
  • Performance optimized – significantly less FPS drop when combined with Dexecutioner.

How to Unlock

To unlock the Black Hole, players must take the Knockback Tome during a run and upgrade it to Level 10.

The Knockback Tome is a starter tome available from the beginning of the game. The easiest way to complete this is to start a run, select the Knockback Tome, and prioritize all of its level-ups. After the condition is met, the Black Hole must be purchased from the Unlocks tab for 2 Silver.

Strategy and Synergies

The Black Hole is the ultimate "setup" weapon. Its strategy revolves around creating dense enemy clusters and then obliterating them with a secondary Area of Effect (AoE) weapon. This makes it a key component in many of the most powerful builds in the game.

  • The Ultimate Combo Enabler: The core tactic is to fire a Black Hole into a horde of enemies and immediately follow up with a high-damage AoE attack. The grouped enemies will all be hit simultaneously, resulting in massive damage.
  • Key Synergies:
    • High-Damage AoE Weapons: Works best with weapons like the Axe, Mines, and Poison Flask. The grouped enemies ensure full AoE efficiency.
    • Duration Tome & Projectile Count: These are the most critical upgrades for the Black Hole. More Projectile Count means you can control multiple areas at once, while more Duration keeps enemies locked down for longer.
    • Spaceman (Character): The Black Hole is required to unlock the Spaceman and is considered his signature weapon.
    • Dexecutioner: After the optimization fix, this combination no longer causes performance drops.

Upgrades

The Black Hole's upgrades focus on its control capabilities rather than raw power.

  • Damage
  • Duration
  • Projectile Count
